Ski trip to Jay Peak, VT

Drove up to Jay, VT this weekend for a day of snowboarding with Greg, Nicole and Dan. Stayed at an apartment that was an offshoot of 'Grampa Grunts Lodge'. As Nicole explained, we stayed off site because apparently there was a rowdy college ski club staying there that weekend, and because we are old curmudgeons, would likely have been bothered by them.

So close to Canada that my cell phone actually switched from AT&T to Rogers at one point.
The lodge; Montgomery Center, VT

I like how the the cartoon looks like a grizzled prospector that is skiing.

Little Grunts
All the beams and furniture in the place seemed crooked.
Numerous games of Scrabble were played at that table.

Breakfast was served at the lodge: toast, english muffins, bagels and lox...
... banana pancakes, omelets and biscuits and gravy.

They are doing an insane amount of construction at the mountain. Extreme!
Stopped here for a coffee on the way home.

There were some great flyers posted outside the store
In case you were looking for someone to skin your moose

Road Trip to Roo: Day 3: Grantville, KS to Sterling, CO

They had plenty of these at various rest stops around Kansas. Its like a whole lot of nothing for hundreds of miles of nothing and then a BLAST of information
There was some pretty cool hillsides though
We took a small detour to Collyer, KS to visit Castle Rock, a 70 foot tall limestone pillar in the middle of nowhere
The view from one of the plateaus was awesome.
Its funny because if we had gone to the grand canyon first, this wouldn't have been impressive at all. But oh it was.
Thats our car on the left
Kansas got kind of creepy at one point. With all the fog and half visible wind turbines and all...
Mirage!
Big ol' bales o' hay
I got worms! No, thats what we're gonna call it; we're gonna specialize in selling worm farms.
We found this abandoned building on the side of a lonely road
This is what the inside looked like
Oh hai. Welcome to my home.
The drive through Colorado was just as long and tiring as driving in Kansas, plus we had to stop a while to wait for one way traffic road work. The construction worker holding us back talked with us about classic rock. No mountains in sight yet...
Reading about Colorado makes you feel rugged and manly
We spent a good amount of time trying to find a campsite. Memorial day weekend meant that either everywhere was full or that it was $40 just for a tent site. We finally found a place at North Sterling State Park. They said it would be $16 but forgot to tell us about a bullshit parking pass which brought it up to $22.
The campsite was ok. It was crowded and we had an annoying family with stupid loud children across from us, but we were at least happy with finding a place to stay. Plus the picnic area had hundreds of birds.
Lots of bird nests on the ceiling
G'night
